Key Considerations in Cold Chain Food Logistics

Cold chain logistics is the process of transporting temperature-sensitive products while keeping them within a defined temperature range, from production all the way to the consumer. Maintaining an unbroken cold chain is vital for food safety and public health.

What Is ATP Certification?

ATP (the Agreement on the International Carriage of Perishable Foodstuffs and on the Special Equipment to be Used for such Carriage) is the core standard governing international cold chain transport. ATP-certified vehicles have demonstrated their ability to maintain specific temperature ranges. At RSS Transport, we operate our temperature-controlled vehicles in line with ATP standards.

Temperature Control Methods

Different temperature ranges must be maintained depending on the product type. Fresh fruit and vegetables generally require temperatures between 0 and 8 degrees Celsius, frozen products require minus 18 degrees Celsius or lower, and dairy products require temperatures between 2 and 6 degrees Celsius. Multi-temperature refrigerated vehicles make it possible to transport several product categories in a single run.

Loading and Unloading Rules

Loading and unloading in cold chain transport should be carried out as quickly as possible. The time doors remain open should be kept to an absolute minimum, and loading dock temperatures must be monitored closely. Products should be stacked in a way that allows proper air circulation between them.

Technology-Based Tracking Systems

Modern cold chain logistics relies on IoT (Internet of Things)-based temperature sensors, GPS tracking systems, and cloud-based monitoring platforms. These systems allow a shipment's temperature to be tracked in real time, with automatic alerts triggered the moment any deviation occurs.

At RSS Transport, we apply the highest standards in cold chain food logistics. With state-of-the-art refrigerated vehicles, continuous temperature-monitoring systems, and trained personnel, we guarantee that your products reach their destination safely.
